Mrs. Sam Anderson, 56, longtime resident of the Stanhope community, died at 9:10 p.m. Sunday at the Hamilton county hospital where she had been a patient since Feb. 11.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of Christ in Stanhope. The Rev. Traverce Harrison will officiate and burial will be in the Lawn Hill cemetery near Stanhope.

The body will lie in state at the Foster funeral home until 11 a.m. Wednesday when it will be taken to the church.

Gertrude Marie Carlson, daughter of Carl A. and Anna M. Carlson, was born May 21, 1902, in Sweden. When she was 2 years old, she came with her parents to the United States, locating at Newhall, Iowa. The family resided there for two years, moving then to Boone, later going to the Stanhope community where she was reared and educated.

She was united in marriage March 15, 1920 to Samuel Anderson, and Mr. and Mrs. Anderson had always lived in the Stanhope vicinity.

She is survived by her husband and one son, Virgil G. Anderson of Stanhope; one grandson, Jimmy Virgil Anderson; two brothers and four sisters, Leonard Carlson, Webster City, Arthur Carlson, Leon, Iowa, Mrs. C.A. Peterson of Buffalo Center, Mrs. Clarence Raner of Moline, Ill., Mrs. Ed Fortune and Mrs. Wilbur Smith, both of Webster City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sister.

Mrs. Anderson was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Sweden but attended the Church of Christ in Stanhope.
