Virgil Anderson, 76, Stanhope, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1997, at the Hamilton Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Foster Funeral Home, with Rev. Kim Wills officiating. Burial will be in the Lawn Hill Cemetery, southeast of Stanhope. Visitation will be at the funeral home after 8:30 a.m. on Saturday until the time of the service.

Virgil Grant Anderson, son of Samuel and Gertrude Anderson, was born Feb. 24, 1921 at Webster City. He received his education at Stanhope. He helped several Stanhope area farmers. On Sept. 19, 1965, he married Mary Ellena Kendall. The couple resided in Webster City. He had been employed at Seneca Foundry, McCollough's and retired from Tasler's in 1980. His wife died in August of 1981. He moved to Stanhope in 1988.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Cindy Anderson, Stanhope; step-sons and step-daughters, Rolland and Sonya Fister, Norfolk, Neb., Russell and Janet Fister, Webster City, Betty and Jim Haga of Scottsville, Va., Donna Wildt, Stanhope and Patricia Fister, Webster City, 23 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a great-granddaughter.
