George E. Anderson, 81, Stanhope, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services were held Thursday at the Community Church, east of Kamrar with Pastor Todd Jones officiating. Burial was in Lawn Hill Cemetery, southeast of Stanhope. Military rites were conducted by American Legion Post # 191.

George Edward Anderson, son of Hugh and Nora Healy Anderson, was born Jan. 26, 1921 at Stanhope. He attended Stanhope Public School, graduating in 1939. During W W II, he served with the U S Navy in the Asian and European Theatres of Action. On Nov. 16, 1947, he married Dorothy Thompson at Stanhope. He was employed at Read Auto in Stanhope for 41 years as a mechanic. He retired in 1983 and continued to reside in Stanhope.

Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Cecil, Henry, Bill and Harold Anderson, and sister Marge Storm.

He was a member of the Community Church, former fire chief of the Stanhope Fire Department, former board member of the Hamilton County Landfill, former Stanhope City Council member, a member of the American Legion Post # 191 of Webster City and the Disabled American Veterans of Fort Dodge.
