Daily Freeman Journal, Webster City, Iowa, Tuesday, June 13, 1989

Word has been received of the death of Darrell Ruhl, 48, New York, N.Y., who died Monday, June 5, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was a former Webster City resident. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 16, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Melrose. Graveside services will be held at 5 p.m. that day at the Calvary Cemetery in Webster City. The body has been cremated.

Darrell Ruhl, son of Madonna and the late Archie Ruhl, was born Dec. 27, 1940, in Albany, Ind. He moved with his family to Webster City in 1950, where he attended local schools and graduated from Webster City High School in 1958. He attended St. Ambrose College in Davenport, and graduated from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, in 1963. He taught school for several years in Rock Falls and Palatine, Ill. He later moved to New York, where he was employed for many years in an editorial capacity with the Sweedenborg Foundation.

He is survived by his mother Madonna, Melrose; two brothers, Wayne Ruhl, Monterey, Calif.; and Gary Ruhl, Belleview, Wash.; two sisters, Lois White, Port Angelos, Wash.; and Diana Brennen, Streeter, Ill.; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Ruhl was preceded in death by his father in 1983, and younger brother, Neil, in 1961.

The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Meals on Wheels.
