William Lester Pierce, 87, Stanhope, died Sunday, June 11, at the Stratford Care Center. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 14, at 10:30 a.m. at the Community Church of Kamrar, Rev. Craig A. Bex officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery in Hamilton Township. Visitation at the Becker Funeral Home in Jewell is this afternoon and evening.

William Lester Pierce, son of Ray Clark and Maude Holroyd Pierce, was born Feb. 21, 1902, on a farm near Coon Rapids. He married Cecile Scott on August 29, 1929. He spent several years working as a hired man, and in his father's coal mine. In 1939, the family moved to Jefferson, where he began farming. They moved to Stanhope, and he continued to farm until his retirement. They later moved to Jewell, where he worked as a meat inspector and carpenter. Mr. Pierce also gardened and sold produce.

He is survived by his wife Cecile, Stratford Care Center; two children, Dean Pierce, Odessa, Texas; and Donna (Mrs. Arnold) Ostrem, Radcliffe; four grandchildren; and four sisters, Daisy Monroe, Baltimore, Md.; Ethel Smouse, Des Moines; Helen Kallesen, Heber Springs, Ark.; and Grace Palmer, Perry.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Perle and Clarence.

Mr. Pierce was a member of the Community Church of Kamrar.
