Cecile Wanita Pierce, 84, a longtime Stanhope and Jewell area resident, died Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Story City Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 10:30 a.m. at the Community Church of Kamrar, Rev. Craig A. Bex officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery in Hamilton Township. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the Becker Funeral Home in Jewell.

Cecile Wanita Scott, daughter of Isaac and Elia Mae Kifer Scott, was born May 2, 1905, on a farm near Guthrie Center. She graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1924, and taught in country schools.

She married Lester Pierce on Aug. 29, 1929 in Newton. She continued to teach, moving to Coon Rapids in 1933. The couple resided there for several years before moving to Jefferson, Stanhope and Jewell.

She taught Sunday School for many years, led Bible Study, and wrote several poems. She had a book of poems entitled "Etchings in Silver and Gold" published. She entered the Stratford Care Center in November 1987, and became hospitalized in August of this year.

She is survived by her twin children, Dean Pierce, Odessa, Texas, and Donna (Mrs. Arnold) Ostrem, Radcliffe; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Pierce was preceded in death by her husband Lester in June 1989, her parents and three sisters.
