George Wilmer, 75, Alden, died Tuesday, July 30, at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 2 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williams, Fr. Francis Helmerman officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation at Surls Funeral Home in Alden will be from 3-6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, with a Scripture service at 8 p.m. that night at the church.

George Wilmer, son of Edward and Katherine (Vierkandt) [Veerkamp] Wilmer, was born Dec. 29, 1915 in Webster City. He attended schools in Webster City. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II as a master sergeant in the 557th bomb squadron from 1941-45. He married Thelma Adams on April 10, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williams. He was self-employed as a mechanic in Alden. He later went to work for International Harvester in Iowa Falls, retiring in 1980.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma, Alden; a son, John Wilmer, Parkersburg; two daughters, Patty Lord, Iowa Falls and Betty Newton, Mt. Ayr; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Wilmer and Betty Ostebee, both of Ellsworth.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Edward.

Mr. Wilmer was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williams; Collins-Dunning Post 201 American Legion; the Alden Boat Club; was past fire chief of Alden; and served on the Alden City Council.
