Mrs. Welty, 75, Dies at Home

Mrs. Margaret Welty, 75, died at 7:10 p.m. Saturday at her home at 1145 Bank street. She had been in poor health for a year and one half but more seriously ill the past six months.

Services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic church with Rev. Father D.A. Gorman officiating and with burial in the Williams Catholic cemetery. The rosary will be said at her home at 8 p.m. this evening and again Tuesday night at 8 o'clock at the home.

Margaret Ellen McDermott, daughter of Terrance and Margaret Ellen McDermott, was born Jan. 18, 1873 [headstone says 1872] on a farm near Otto Creek, Iowa. She received her education and grew to young womanhood in that community.

On June 17, 1890, she was united in marriage to Howard Welty and the couple started housekeeping on a farm near Zwingle, Iowa, in Jackson county. They resided there for four years, then moved to Hamilton county, where they located on a farm two miles north and three miles west of Williams. Mr. Welty died there Aug. 8, 1918, but Mrs. Welty continued to make her home there until the spring of 1929, when she moved to Webster City, her home since.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Lloyd William, who died in infancy; one daughter, Mrs. Neva Olson, who died Oct. 24, 1918, and also by her parents, four brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by two sons and two daughters: Howard of Brainerd, Minn.; Silas of Williams; Mrs. Margaret Boston of Webster City and Miss Susie Welty at home. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Hoffman of Maquoketa.
