Simon Weiss was born in Germany in 1848 and died at his home in Blairsburg, Dec. 4, 1932 at the age of 84 years. When he was seven years of age he came with his parents to America and settled at Joliet, Ill. Here he grew to manhood and Jan. 23, 1873 was married to Miss Mary St. Julian, of that place.

In 1884 he moved with his family to Blairsburg where for sometime he was associated in business with Mr. McLarin, who at that time had large farming interests in this community. Later he engaged in farming for himself for several years after which he moved to Blairsburg where he was actively employed until two years ago when failing health forced him to retire.

During the half century Mr. Weiss resided in this community he made hosts of friends. His kindly and jovial disposition will be remembered by everyone who knew him and the entire community deeply regrets his passing. He was confirmed in the Catholic church when a child and was a devoted follower of that faith all his life. Mr. Weiss was the first of his immediate family to die. He is survived by his wife, one sister, ten children, 20 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

The children are Henry A. Weiss of Carrington, N.D., Mrs. Gertrude McNab of Sioux City, Joe Weiss of Fort Collins, Col., Mrs. Anna Williams of Blairsburg; Mrs. Tressa Cooper of Blairsburg; Mrs. Elizabeth Coons of Ames; Mrs. Helen Lucas of Pasadena, Calif.; Mrs. Mary Manion of Sullivan, Mo.; Mrs. Laura Ellingen of Chicago and John J. Weiss of Webster City. His sister is Mrs. Francis Wise of Joliet, Ill.

Funeral services were conducted at the Catholic church in Williams and burial made at the Catholic cemetery there.
