BLAIRSBURG WOMAN DIES

Mrs. Simon Weiss, 84, Dies Quietly While in Coma

ARE TEN CHILDREN

BLAIRSBURG, Iowa, Jan. 7 - Mrs. Simon Weiss, 84, a resident of Blairsburg and Hamilton county for more than 50 years, died last evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. Williams, here.

The funeral will be held tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic church in Williams, conducted by the Rev. Father O'Donnell, with Carol Rick of Williams in charge.

Despite the fact she had been in failing health for several years, due to age, she was active in the home and among her many friends. Yesterday afternoon she sat up and wrote a letter to her eldest son. She lay down about 4 o'clock and soon went into a coma from which she did not rally.

She was born in Joliet, Ill., in 1852 of French parentage. She was educated there and married to Simon Weiss, Jan. 23, 1871. Mr. and Mrs. Weiss lived there a short time and then moved to the Blairsburg community. Mr. Weiss died three years ago.

There were 11 children born to the couple, 10 of whom are living. The life of Mrs. Weiss was a monument to the better things. She was a life long member of the Catholic church and belonged to St. Mary's church since coming to Hamilton county. In her younger days she served as organist in this church for many years.

The surviving children are Henry, of Carrington, N.D.; Mrs. James McNab of Sioux City; Jos. of Fort Collins, Colo.; Mrs. M. Williams and Mrs. Edward Cooper of Blairsburg; Mrs. E. Coons of Ames; Mrs. Helen Lucas of Santa Barbara, Calif.; Mrs. Mary Manion of Sullivan, Mo; Mrs. Ray Ellingen of Chicago and J.J. Weiss of Webster City. There are also 24 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

[in checking family tree her maiden name was St. Julian; her headstone says she died in 1935; burial St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, rural Williams, Hamilton Co., Iowa]
