Elaine Uthe was born February 14, 1930 in Boone, Iowa, to Alouies and Ottilia Leininger Uthe.

She received a B.A. from Marycrest College; M.A. from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.

She taught in high schools at Rockford, Garner and Lake City, IA; the US Army Dependent Schools in France; Mount Mercy College; East Aurora High School, Aurora, IL; the University of Minnesota; the University of Georgia; and the University of Kentucky.

She served as officer and speaker to numerous professional organizations as well as community organizations.

Survived by a sister, Patricia Lynch of Waterloo, IA; a niece Michelle (Tim) Oliver; nephews, Thomas Lynch, Michael (Rachel) Lynch, Patrick (Sandy) Lynch, and James Lynch; and four grandnieces: Libby, Abby, Molly and Sophie Lynch.

Preceded in death by: a brother, Thomas Uthe; and brother-in-law, Earl Lynch.

Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Williams, IA. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Richardson Funeral Service where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and 7 p.m. vigil service.

Visitation also for one hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the church.
