Funeral services for a longtime Williams resident, Fred W. Spanier, were held March 27 at St. Mary's Catholic church in Williams.

Father McEnany conducted the service and burial was at Williams. Mr. Spanier died March 23 in a Laurens nursing home.

Fred William Spanier, the son of George and Martha Spanier, was born Sept. 12, 1882, near Galena, Ill. As a youth he accompanied his father and two brothers to Iowa to make their home in the Williams community.

On March 11, 1905, he was married at Webster City to Ruth Mealio, who preceded him in death in 1960. Mr. Spanier was employed by Fear's Hardware store in Williams for a number of years.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Harold (Martha) Wilson of Iowa Falls; a son, William, of Laurens; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a brother, Ed, of Eagle Grove.
