GEORGE SPANIER, 82, DIES AT HIS HOME IN WILLIAMS

WILLIAMS, Iowa, Aug. 22 - Funeral services were held here this morning for George Spanier, 82, in St. Mary's Catholic church with Father Baxter, of Webster City, officiating. Burial was made in St. Mary's cemetery. Rick in charge.

George Charles Spanier was born July 17, 1853, near East Dubuque, Jo Davies county, Illinois. He died Aug. 20, 1935 at his home in Williams at the age of 82 years, 1 month and 3 days, his death being caused by the shock from breaking a hip bone in falling several months ago, during which time he was a patient sufferer.

He was married to Miss Martha Clark, in November, 1877 and soon after moved to a farm in Jackson county, Iowa. Later the family moved to a farm in Hamilton county. In 1924 he retired from the farm and moved to Williams, where he had since resided. He was quiet and unassuming and due credit must be given him in keeping his home and the little children together during the years following the death of his wife 35 years ago.

He was the last of a family of five children and he leaves to mourn his passing three sons, Fredrick William, Cornelius John and James Edward, all residing in Williams. Two children passed away in infancy. He is also survived by two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Mr. Spanier was a life long member of the Holy Catholic church and at his death received the rites and sacrament of the church.
