SERVICES FOR PETER SMITH

Long Time County Resident Died Thursday

WILLIAMS - Peter C. Smith, 85, died at his home near Blairsburg Thursday morning, death resulting from effects of a fall and fractured bones suffered several weeks ago.

Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic church in Williams, Saturday morning at 10 o'clock; burial in Williams Catholic cemetery; C.G. Rick in charge.

Born in Whitewater, Wis., Oct. 12, 1860 [headstone says 1862], Peter C. Smith came to Hamilton county as a boy with his parents in a covered wagon. He was married in Chicago, Dec. 12, 1892, to Nellie O'Neill. They returned immediately to Webster City where Mr. Smith worked for two years, then homesteading a farm near Blairsburg where they lived many years. Three years ago the Smiths retired from the farm to make their home on the south edge of Blairsburg.

Surviving Mr. Smith are his wife and nine children: Mrs. Earl Campbell of Vancouver, Wash.; Mrs. Cleo McCoy of Boone; Mrs. Jake Thomas of Iowa Falls; Mrs. Merle Doyle, Williams; Frank, Blairsburg; Leo, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Andrew, Columbus, Ind., Donald, at the Veterans' home in Knoxville, and Peter, at home. There are also 41 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

One son, Clair, preceded him in death.
