MRS. SMITH, 74, DIES IN BOONE

Funeral to Be Held on Thursday, 9:30 A.M.

Mrs. Pete Smith, 74, former Blairsburg resident, died at 9 p.m. Monday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Cleo McCoy, in Boone. Mrs. Smith had been ill for several months.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's church in Williams with burial at Williams.

A rosary will be said this evening at 8 o'clock at the Foster funeral home. The body will be taken Wednesday to the home of Mrs. Smith's daughter, Mrs. Merle Doyle, in Williams.

Another rosary will be said Wednesday evening at the Doyle home in Williams, starting at 8 o'clock.

Ellen O'Neill, daughter of John and Mary O'Neill, was born July 22, 1872 at Amboy, Ill. When she was 10, her family came to Iowa and located on a farm near Williams, living there several years before moving to Chicago, where she completed her education. She was married Dec. 13, 1892 to Peter Smith.

After their marriage, the couple came to Iowa and located on a farm near Blairsburg, where they made their home until three years ago. The Smiths retired at that time and moved into Blairsburg, where Smith died Jan. 9, 1946. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 12, 1942.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Clair, also five brothers and two sisters. She is survived by four daughters and five sons: Mrs. Jake (Margaret) Thomas, Iowa Falls; Mrs. Cleo (Elizabeth) McCoy of Boone; Mrs. Earl (Kathryn) Campbell of Vancouver, Wash.; Mrs. Merle (Mary) Doyle of Williams; Frank Smith, Blairsburg; Leo of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Andrew of Columbus, Ind.; Donald of Knoxville and Pete of Boone. Also surviving are 31 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a brother, James O'Neill, of Williams.
