Mrs. Alvin (Gen) Hovland, 77, a longtime resident of the Blairsburg-Webster City area, died Friday evening at the Hamilton County hospital where she had been admitted earlier in the day. She had not been in good health since February, 1974.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Trinity Lutheran church with the Rev. Raymond Roden officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the Foster Funeral home until 10 a.m. Tuesday when it will be taken to the church.

Genevieve Sauer, daughter of A.D. and Mary Alice Quinn Sauer, was born Aug. 9, 1896 at Story City, where she was reared and educated.

She was united in marriage Oct. 23, 1920 to Alvin P. Hovland, and the couple farmed at Story City, later at the Oakwood Closz farm at Webster City and at the Clear View Farm at Blairsburg.

Mr. Hovland preceded her in death in 1971. She had made her home for the past two years at Crestview Apartments and lately had been residing at Crestview Manor.

She is survived by one son and one daughter, John W. Hovland and Mrs. Don (Mary) Struchen, both of Webster City; and 10 grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Henry S. Hovland, who died in 1972; by her parents; one brother, Claude Sauer, and a sister who died in infancy.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran church.
