Alvin P. Hovland, 75, a prominent Blairsburg dairy cattle broker, died at his home early Sunday morning.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran church in Webster City with the Rev. Raymond Roden officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the Foster Funeral home until 10 a.m. Wednesday, when it will be taken to the church.

Alvin P. Hovland, son of Henry and Carrie Thorson Hovland, was born July 11, 1896, at Story City, Iowa, where he was reared and educated. He served with the U.S. Army during World War I.

He was united in marriage Oct. 23, 1920, to Genevieve Sauer, and the couple made their home on a farm near Story City, later moving to a farm south of Webster City. In recent years, the family had resided on the Clearview farm south of Blairsburg.

He is survived by his wife; two sons and one daughter, Henry S. (Bud) Hovland of Greenwich, Conn., John W. Hovland and Mrs. Don (Mary) Struchen, both of Webster City; nine grandchildren; one brother and one sister, Orville C. Hovland of Webster City and Mrs. John (Inger) Brattebo of Milwaukee, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and one sister.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran church in Webster City and the American Legion.
