Leland H. Phillips, 71, longtime Hamilton County farmer, died early this morning at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames where he had been a patient the past month. He had been in ill health for several years.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Missionary Alliance church in Blairsburg with the Rev. Phil Ronzheimer officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.

Friends may call at the Foster Funeral home until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, at which time the casket will be taken to the church.

Leland Hilbert Phillips, son of Chester A. and Camella Moore Phillips, was born March 17, 1910 at Winterset. He was reared and educated at Truto, Iowa.

He was united in marriage July 18, 1931 to Berdene Clooster [correct spelling is Klooster], and the couple farmed in southern Iowa for eight years, then moved to Hamilton County, farming in the Kamrar, Blairsburg, Williams and Webster City areas.

He retired in 1968, and the family moved to Webster City, residing at 1716 Union Street.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Joyce) Skinner of Slater, Philip K. Phillips, Fort Dodge, and David L. Phillips of Williams; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, two brothers, Paul Phillips of Peru, Iowa, and Dana Phillips of Lexington, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson; five brothers and one sister.

He was a member of Missionary Alliance church, and was building fund treasurer of the church and for many years was interested in 4-H work.
