J.H. Riley, 71, a longtime Webster City resident, died Saturday afternoon at the Hamilton County hospital. He had been a patient there the past six weeks and in ill health the past year.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Ellis Andrews officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.

John Harold Riley, son of Richard and Jane Little Riley, was born Nov. 26, 1899 at Goldfield. He was reared and educated at Webster City.

He was united in marriage Dec. 10, 1924 to Elsie Esther Hall, and the couple made their home in Webster City where he operated the Economy Grocery until 1946. He then served as a rural substitute mail carrier until 1966.

For the past year, he had resided with his daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Nichols, Jr.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Patricia) Reed of Bethesda, Md., and Mrs. Lewis (Laura) Nichols, Jr., of Webster City and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dec. 31, 1969; by his parents and two sisters.

He was baptized in the Methodist faith.
