Lloyd E. Genschmer, 82, Spirit Lake, a former Webster City resident, died Saturday, May 27, 2000 at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Spirit Lake. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City, with Rev. Mike Morgan and Cindy O'Brien, ministry assistant, officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home in Webster City from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday and at the church after 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post # 191.

Lloyd Edward Genschmer, son of Edward and Clara Zimmerman Genschmer, was born Oct. 8, 1917 on a farm near Harvard, Neb. He attended school at Harvard, graduating in 1934. He started in the carpentry business. In 1936, he moved to California. On November 21, 1941, he married Margaret McCollough at Glendale, Calif. He continued in the carpentry business. From 1943 to 1945, he served with the U.S. Coast Guard in the South Pacific. Following his discharge, he returned to California. The couple moved to Webster City in 1948, and he was a lathing and plaster contractor in the Webster City area until his retirement in 1982. In 1984, they moved to Spirit Lake.

Survivors are his wife, Margaret, daughter and son-in-law, Virginia (Ginger) and Steven Currey, Oro Valley, Ariz., son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Carolyn Genschmer, Stockton, Calif., grandchildren, Kimberly Vital-Brasil, Heather Genschmer and Dirk Nelson, great-grandchildren, Isabella and Filepe Vital-Brasil, sisters, Agnes Smidt and Lenora Plum, both of Hastings, Neb., Violet Chatterson of Ravenna, Neb., nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Irvin Genschmer, and sister, Irene Aker.

He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Spirit Lake United Methodist Church and served as trustee at both churches.
