George W. McCollough, 84, longtime Webster City resident and former mayor of Webster City, died yesterday afternoon at the Hamilton county hospital where he had been admitted on Sunday. He had been in ill health the past year.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. S.W. Cunningham officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery, with Masonic graveside rites.
George William McCollough, son of William Arnold and Bertha Anna Richey McCollough, was born Nov. 24, 1889, at Green Mountain, Iowa, where he was reared and educated.
He was married Nov. 24, 1899 [her obituary said they were married February 24, 1915] to Ethel Mabbott and to this union three children were born: Margaret Irene, Richard William and Robert Harold. Mrs. McCollough preceded him in death in 1919.
He was united in marriage June 6, 1921 to Blanche Hoot, and to this union one daughter, Barbara Jean, was born. Mrs. McCollough preceded him in death in 1927.
On June 19, 1929 he was married to Emma Miller, and the couple had since resided in Webster City where Mr. McCollough was associated with McCollough's, Inc. Following his father's death in 1938, he served as president of the corporation, a position he held until 1950 when he turned his interests to farming and stock raising. He was also employed at Christeson Motors for a few years.
He served as a member of the Webster City council for 14 years, and was mayor of Webster City several times.
He is survived by his wife, Emma; two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Margaret) Genschmer of Webster City, and Mrs. Richard (Barbara) Talcott of Tacoma, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandcildren; one sister and one brother, Mrs. Jesse (Laura) Smith of Tama, Iowa, and Luther McCollough, Phoenix, Ariz., and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Richard McCollough in 1968, and Robert, who died in infancy; his parents, two brothers and one sister.
He was a member of Asbury United Methodist church, the Elks lodge, the Odd Fellows, the Moose, the Masonic and Shriner organizations and the Webster City Country club.
