Stratford Farmer Tractor Victim

Machine Turns Over in Ditch Along Highway

Gilbert Dickerson, 28, Is Victim of South Marion Mishap

Gilbert Dickerson, 28-year old farmer living southeast of Stratford, was instantly killed yesterday noon when the tractor he was driving turned over in a roadside ditch, pinning him underneath.

According to Dr. Galloway, Dickerson, Gene Waldron, 20, and LaVerne Miller, 20, had just completed plowing for the morning on the Vernon Johnson farm and had pulled out on the highway with their tractors.

The three tractors, Dr. Galloway said, were going down the road at a fast clip when Miller's machine bumped into Dickerson's, forcing the latter into the ditch. The tractor overturned in the five-foot ditch, one of the wheels catching Dickerson across the cheek and neck.

No inquest is planned into the accident, the coroner added.

Dickerson had been farming this year on the Wesley Johnson place in the South Marion community. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Funeral services are pending with the Jackson funeral home of Stratford in charge.
