Mrs. Anderson Dies at Home
Mrs. Carrie Anderson, 82, long-time Stanhope resident, died at 2:55 a.m. today at her home in Stanhope. She had suffered a stroke about a week ago and had been seriously ill since that time.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran church in Stanhope, preceded by a brief service at 1:30 in the family home in Stanhope. The Rev. Walter E. Carlson will officiate, and burial will be in Lake Center cemetery with Foster funeral home in charge.
Carrie Madson, daughter of Ole and Johanna Madson, was born July 15, 1870 in Sogn, Norway, where she was reared and educated. She came to the United States in 1892 with her parents, brothers and sisters. The family located near Stanhope.
She was united in marriage Sept. 23, 1893 to Andrew E. Anderson. They started housekeeping on a farm near Stanhope and the fall of 1915 when they retired and moved into Stanhope, the family home since.
Mr. Anderson died in 1933. She was also preceded in death by one daughter who died in infancy, by her parents, one brother and one sister.
She is survived by two sons and three daughters: Lyman Anderson of Auburn, Wash.; Martin Anderson of Sacramento, Calif.; Mrs. Torkel (Hannah) Oppedal of Stanhope; Mrs. Sam (Gurine) Oppedal of Stanhope and Mrs. Carl (Emma) Knutson of Nevis, Minn. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Embert Mason of Story City; Hans Madison of Red Wing, Minnesota; and Ole Madison of Camrose, Alberta, Canada.
Mrs. Anderson was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Norway and was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran church at Stanhope. She was active in church work as long as her health permitted.
