Blairsburg man dies in crash

Is sixth fatality of 1973

Hamilton county recorded its sixth fatality of the year as the result of a grinding, one-car mishap that occurred about 6:30 Saturday evening on U.S. Highway 69 near Little Wall Lake.

Killed in the crash was 21-year-old David Lynn Greufe of rural Blairsburg.

Authorities said that Greufe, who was alone in his car, was southbound at the time of the mishap. He apparently lost control of the car, went off the road and crashed into a tree near the edge of the lake. The mishap occurred approximately one mile south of the junction of Highway 69 and 175 south of Jewell.

The accident was investigated by deputies from the Hamilton county sheriff's department and Iowa Highway Patrolmen Cliff Caruth and John Graham.

Funeral services for David Lynn Greufe are pending at the Foster Funeral Home.

Greufe, the son of Vernon W. and Roberta E. Bullis Greufe, was born Feb. 28, 1952 at Iowa Falls. He was a 1970 graduate of Northeast Hamilton high school and had been attending Iowa State University at Ames.

He is survived by his parents; five sisters, Marsha, Jolene, Deann, Angela and Karen, all of Blairsburg; three brothers, Larry, a student at ISU in Ames, Wayne and Paul, both of Blairsburg; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Bullis of Eldora.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church in Williams.

Funeral services for David Lynn Greufe will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic church in Williams with the Rev. Father Albert J. Hoffmann officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Williams.

The scripture service will be held at 8 o'clock this evening at the Foster Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home until 10 a.m. Wednesday when the body will be taken to the church.

David Greufe was killed early last Saturday evening in a one-car accident near Little Wall Lake.
