Herman T. Mickelson was born on Tuesday, August 5, 1919, in Randall, Hamilton County, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Margaret “Peggy” Watts. Herman proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. He worked as a carpenter and was a member of the Carpenter’s Local #106 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. Herman T. Mickelson, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Marshall County, Iowa. Those left to mourn his passing are: His step daughter: Joyce L. Livingston in Mitchellville, Polk County, Iowa. His two sisters: Marjorie Whipple of Humboldt, Humboldt County, Iowa and Fern Shultz of Clarion, Wright County, Iowa. His brother: H. Teddy (Louella) Mickelson of Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona and his half brother: Dennis Mickelson of Iowa City, Johnson County, Iowa. His step grandchildren: Connie (Bobby) Munson Wyatt, Robber (David) Jay-Hay, Michelle (Bob) Gildersleeve, Dennis (Loretta) Flaws and Robert (Patty) Flaws. His nine great grandchildren and his three great great grandchildren. Also many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Preceding Herman in death were his parents, his wife, his step daughter: LaVina “Dixie” Templeton, his brother: Arnold, his sisters: Mildred Nerving and Alma Kelling, his step mother: Dorothy. May they rest in peace. May God bless his memory and give strength to those that mourn. There will be no visitation, but the family will greet friends following the service at a luncheon in the fellowship hall. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 23, 2009 at the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax, Jasper County, Iowa. Memorials in Herman’s honor may be directed to the Honor Flight Program to send WWII Veterans to Washington D.C. or to the Iowa Veterans Home.
