John R. Melchi, 88, of Webster City, died Sunday, December 25, 2005 at the Hamilton Hospital. Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006 at the Foster Funeral & Cremation Center with Rev. Howard Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with Graveside Military Rites conducted by the American Legion Post #191 of Webster City.

John Richard Melchi, son of Roy and Hazel Nickeson Melchi was born on July 21, 1917 at Bloomington, IL. He moved with his family to Webster City in 1918. He attended Webster City Schools and graduated from Lincoln high school in 1935. John proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during W.W. II. On January 3, 1941, he married Emma Marie Bezina in Webster City. The couple later divorced. He worked as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator for many years. In 1955, he moved to Delavan Lake, Wisconsin. In December of 1968, he married Faye Jeanette Dodson in Marshall, MO. The couple later divorced. John returned to Webster City following his retirement in 1990.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, William and Suzan Melchi of St. Germain, WI, Robert and Gerald Melchi of Janesville, WI, Jerry Melchi of San Francisco, CA; daughters and son-in-law, Sherri Selsing of Las Vegas, NV, Jolene and Tom Magiera of Enfield, CT; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #191 of Webster City and a former Webster City Elks Lodge member.
