Robert O. Mitterling, 59, USAF colonel, retired, died Dec. 23 at 3:50 p.m. at the Medic Home Health Center, Melbourne, Fla.

Funeral services for Col. Mitterling, son of the late Drs. E. S. and Christine O. Mitterling of this city, are being held with burial being made at the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

Col. Mitterling was born Aug. 26, 1918 at Webster City, and served for many years with the U.S. Air Force until his retirement.

He formerly lived at Redlands, Calif. before moving to the south in 1967 and the family has been residing at 310 Hibiscus Trail, Melbourne Beach, Fla.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Mitterling; three daughters, Mrs. Christine Krempen of San Antonio; Dorothy H. Mitterling and Melinda M. Mitterling, both of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; one son, Robert C. Mitterling of Gainesville, Fla.; a brother, Edward S. Mitterling of Pico Rivera, Calif.; and one sister, Mrs. Margaret L. Reed of Des Moines.

Funeral services were arranged by Brownlie and Maxwell Funeral home, Melbourne, Fla.
