Robert A. Buckley, 69, Webster City died April 23, 1997 at the Southfield Care Center. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 26 at 3:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Revs. Roy Miltner and John Grebner officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at Foster Funeral home from 5-9 p.m. Friday and until noon on Saturday.

Mr. Buckley, son of Alfred and Irene (Abbott) Buckley, was born March 21, 1928 in Forest City. He graduated from Forest City High School. During World War II he served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. Following his discharge, he attended Luther College at Decorah and received his master's degree from Drake University. On March 17, 1952 he married Ruth Lorraine Smith in Forest City. He taught at Earlville, Brooklyn and Panora, then in Webster City for 31 years as a science teacher and track coach. Following his wife's death in 1979, he married Betty Coulter Maudlin on July 22, 1980 at Webster City. He retired from the school system in 1992 and worked part-time at Abens Realty.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Diamond K Kiwanis, and Morning Coffee Club. He was a driver for Meals on Wheels and was inducted into the Iowa Track Coaches Hall of Fame in 1986. The Bob Buckley Community track was named after him in 1994.

Mr. Buckley is survived by his wife; four daughters, Jackie Lancaster, Maryville, Mo., Robbin Phipps, Denver, Colo., Holly Buckley, Webster City, and Beth Lutkenhaus, and husband, Kevin, LaBelle, Fla.; a son, Richard Buckley, Dallas, Texas; two step-sons, Tim Maudlin and wife Jan, Eden Prairie, Minn, and Tom Maudlin and wife, Carolyn, Spirit Lake; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Raymond Buckley, Pasadena, Calif; a sister, June Polzin, Luverne, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
