Ruth Angela Koolhof, 91, was born on August 2, 1924 to Andrew and Frances (Dundon) Christeson in Webster City, Iowa. She passed away on April 29, 2016.

She was the youngest of six children raised on a farm in SW Freedom Township, Hamilton County near Homer. She attended country school and graduated from Lincoln High School in Webster City in 1942. Ruth attended nurses training in Fort Dodge, Dubuque and Sioux City becoming a registered nurse.

On February 21, 1946, Ruth married Albert H. Koolhof Jr., and together they raised six children: Kathleen (Ronald Birkestrand), James (Deborah Shoning), Jeannine (Michael Ascherl), Maureen (Kenneth Lough), Janice (Kevin Deaver), and Angela (Mick Johnston) on a farm NW of Webster City. Ruth worked full time in the home, cared for her family, their farm, and was a supportive neighbor. Ruth was a talented seamstress and a wonderful cook. She and Albert spent countless hours enjoying sporting, music and theater events in support of their children and grandchildren. She was a volunteer with church, school, 4H and scouting activities. Ruth was active in Nurses Club and assisted with Hospice and area blood drives.

After retiring from the farm, Ruth and Albert made their home in Webster City on Rodlyn Road. Ruth learned to golf, painted china, and created clothing for and painted porcelain dolls. She and Albert developed close friendships with their new neighbors who became extended family to the couple.

Ruth is survived by her 6 children and their spouses, her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews as well as her many caregivers and special friends at Crestview Apartments. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, Donald Christeson and Dean Christeson, and sisters, Marguerite Wright, Catherine Laneville and Mary Elizabeth Christeson who died in infancy and granddaughter Nicolette Johnston.

She was a life-long member of St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, and lived her faith.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Webster City. Burial will follow the services at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a 6:45 p.m. Rosary followed by Scripture.

The family will be establishing a nursing school scholarship in Ruth's honor. Memorials and cards can be sent in care of Ruth Koolhof Memorial, 2501 Des Moines Street, Apartment 210, Webster City, Iowa 50595.
