Robert Niemann, 75, of Lake Suzy, FL., formerly of Webster City, IA, died Monday, March 21, 2016 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, FL. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center.

Robert Jay Niemann, the son of Irving and Leona Youngerman Niemann, was born May 6, 1940 in Charles City, IA. He attended schools in Charles City, and lettered in four sports- football, basketball, track and golf. After graduating in 1958, he attended Wartburg College in Waverly, IA, where he played linebacker on two Conference Championship teams. He then transferred to Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago where he graduated Cum Laude in 1963, receiving his Doctor of Optometry degree. The next three years were spent in the U. S. Air Force at Lowery Air Force Base in Denver, CO, where he was the base optometrist. He married Carol Klaassen on August 18, 1962 in Pomeroy, IA. Robert and Carol moved to Webster City in August 1966 where he joined the optometric practice of Drs. Oleson and Brauer. He practiced optometry in Webster City for 36 years. Dr. Jim Tesdahl joined the practice in 1993, which later became affiliated with Wolfe Eye Clinic in 1998. In 2002, Dr. Niemann retired from practice and was replaced by Dr. John Ferrell. He moved to Lake Suzy, FL., in September 2002 and became a member of Kingsway Country Club. His retirement was filled with golf, bridge and visiting his children and grandchildren.

Dr. Niemann is survived by his children; David (Shari) Niemann of Snellville, GA, Sandra (Chris) Wedewer of St. Charles, MO, Mark (Sarah) Niemann of Sugar Hill, GA; nine grandchildren, Katelyn, Emily, Aaron, Matthew, Amy, Courtney, Colby, Andrew, Wayne; brother, Larry (Ruth ) Niemann of Denver and brother-in-law, Gerald (Eloyce) Klaassen of Pomeroy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol in 2014, and his parents.

Robert was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He served on the Fuller Hall Board for 25 years, Webster City school board for six years, First American Bank board of directors, and a Lions Club member for 36 years. In retirement, he was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Charlotte, FL.
