Evelyn Ruth Stolte Wirtz, daughter of Fred Stolte and Clara Lutjen Stolte, was born June 12, 1921 in Boone, IA. She was met with arms wide open by her Lord and Savior and loving husband on March 21, 2016 at Westhaven Community in Boone, IA at the age of 94 years.

Evelyn grew up in Boone and was baptized July 3, 1921. She was confirmed on June 3, 1934. She attended St. Paul's Lutheran School for 7 years before graduating from Stanhope High School in 1939. She then went to work as a bookkeeper and clerk working for Red Arrow and Thriftway. She later went to work for Randall's Grocery and Lawson's Grocery. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Priebe Produce. She retired in 1986 and moved to Boone.

On April 17, 1949, Evelyn was united in marriage to Lowell Wirtz at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church. They were the proud parents of three children: Robert, Gary, and Marlene. They made their home in Boone County, Iowa.

Evelyn was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Circle at her church, Lydia Circle. She stayed busy delivering mail for the Boone County Hospital Auxiliary. She loved working outdoors and playing cards. She was known for making a great apple sauce. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and going to watch all of her grandkids sporting events.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers Elmer Stolte and Don (Betty) Stolte; brothers-in-law Dean (Vivian) Wirtz and Dale Sturtz. She is survived by her children Robert (Debbi) Wirtz of Stratford, IA, Gary (Kelly) Wirtz of Stanhope, IA, and Marlene (Dan) Edgerton of Grimes, IA; her sister Nadine Sturtz of Ankeny, IA; 7 grandchildren: Troy (Kelli) Lee, Aaron (Jillian) Wirtz, Kory Wirtz, Lindsey (Waye) Terry, Alyssa Wirtz, Jenny (Jesse) Cherry, and Shelli (Nic) Johnson; 8 great grandchildren: Cassidy Lee, James Cherry, Jenessa Cherry, Jaxon Cherry, Jakaela Cherry, Tjerdan Johnson, Garrett Johnson, and Amiya Terry; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.

Funeral Services for Evelyn Wirtz, 94, of Boone will be 10:30 am Thursday, March 24, 2016 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 281 Spruce Lane, Boone, IA. Interment will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Schroeder Funeral Home on the corner of 5th and Story Street. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church
