Richard Burtnett, 84, of Webster City, died Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Van Diest Medical Center. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 1, 2016 at the First Congregational- U.C.C. in Webster City, with Rev. Craig Blaufuss officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the church.

Richard Lee Burtnett was born January 7, 1932 in Webster City, the son of William Clair and Gladys Howell Burtnett. He attended country school until the 8th grade and graduated from Lincoln High in 1949. He married Audrey Jean Kennedy on June 15, 1952 at the First Congregational-U.C.C. in Webster City. He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. The couple farmed northwest of Webster City until retiring in 2002. They moved to Webster City in 2011.

Richard is survived by his wife, Audrey of Webster City; children, Rev. Chris (Pam) Burtnett of Algona, Jackie (Dr. Mark) Hanson of Ankeny, Michael (Melody) Burtnett of Webster City, Bill (Sonya) Burtnett of Algona; grandchildren, Andy Burtnett, Brendan Burtnett, Aaron Burtnett, Christine Burtnett, Nate Hanson, Alex Hanson, Adam Burtnett, Nicole (Arnie) Zinnel, Jeff (Morgan) Burtnett, Tom Burtnett; great-grandchildren, Kyzer and Mea Zinnel; one brother-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Duane Burtnett; father and mother-in-law; two brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law and one nephew.

Richard's involvement with Hamilton County and the Webster City community included: 4-H Leader, Hamilton County Extension Council, Freemont Township Trustee, Woolstock Elevator Board of Directors, nine years on the Hamilton County Fair Board, the American Legion of Woolstock, Diamond K Kiwanis, and various boards for the First Congregational-U.C.C.

With Dick it was always "family first." He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather. He was known and loved as a tease, a talent he passed on to his kids and grand kids.

In his time away from his farm duties, Dick loved his John Deere scale model tractor collection, antiquing, building and refinishing furniture and fishing. He is not "gone" because we will carry him in our hearts.
