Fire death ruled suicide

The death of a Webster City woman Friday morning has been ruled a suicide, according to officials investigating the incident.

Firefighters were called to the home of Rick and Doris Ruppel early Friday after smoke was spotted coming from the basement. Police were called to the scene after a body was found in the basement. The body was later identified as that of Doris Ruppel, 30.

Webster City Police Chief Mike Petricca said Ruppel had apparently poured gasoline on herself then lighted a match. The state fire marshall's offie and the Department of Criminal Investigation aided in the investigation of the incident.
