Herman Satre, 93, Webster City and a former Stanhope resident, died May 21, 1996 at Crestview Manor Care Center in Webster City. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Graceland Cemetery, with Rev. Tim Maybee officiating. There will be no visitation and services are being arranged by Foster Funeral Home.

Herman Truman Satre, son of Isaac and Tillie Oppedal Satre, was born Dec. 15, 1902, on a farm north of Stanhope. He attended Squaw Creek rural school, south of Stanhope. He started employment with Peter Hove, an auto dealer in Stanhope as a mechanic. Later, he started a mechanics shop with his brother, Burton, in Stanhope. On June 9, 1936, he married Jennie Louise Beshey Busing in Stanhope. The couple resided in Stanhope, and they operated the Busing Cafe. During World War II, they moved to California, where he was employed at Boeing Aircraft for two years. They returned to operating the Busing Cafe and later operated the Satre Hardware Store for seven years. They bought the Evergreen Motel in Des Moines and operated it for several years. He later worked in maintenance at Kreske's in Des Moines. They retired in 1974 and returned to Stanhope. They wintered in Harlingen, Texas. His wife died in December of 1984. He had resided at Crestview Manor since 1984.

He is survived by step-daughters, Leola McClure, Dorothy Drake, both of LaFeria, Texas; step-daughter-in-law, Rachel Busing, Stanhope; seven step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; brother, Hilford Satre, Stanhope; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by stepson, Ed Busing; brothers, Burton and Leonard Satre; and sister, Irene Satre.

Mr. Satre was baptized at the Lake Center Lutheran Church and was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanhope.
