Sgt. Grayson West Reported Killed In Viet Warfare

Sgt. Grayson (Jeff) West, 38, formerly of Webster City, was killed in action in South Viet Nam while serving with the U.S. Special Forces, according to word received here by members of his family.

The 19-year service veteran has two sons, Jeffrey and Roger Lynn, residing in Webster City, and who were notified of their father's death yesterday.

Word of the death was received from Mrs. West who resides with her four step-children in North Carolina. No additional information on when or how the sergeant lost his life in action has yet been received.

Grayson West, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe West, was born Feb. 24, 1928, in Webster City and attended the Webster City schools, entering the armed services almost 20 years ago.

In addition to his wife; two sons and four step-children, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. George McIntire of Anaheim, Calif.; and two brothers, Ross West, Yorba Linda, Calif., and Claire West, Carroll, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, a brother and a sister.

Sgt. West's death was the first Viet Nam fatality to be reported from the Webster City area.
