Doris Foell, 92, of Sheffield died peacefully on Saturday (April 7, 2001) surrounded by family members at Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City.

Doris Sylvia Hawke was born March 14, 1909, in Sheffield, the oldest daughter of James and Rose Hawke. She graduated from Sheffield High School in 1926 and attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City.

Doris married Clem Foell in August of 1927. They lived in the Rockwell and Sheffield vicinity for three years before moving to Blairsburg, Iowa in 1931. Clem and Doris had six children, Dale, James, Robert, Janice, Ronald, and Donna.

In 1950 they moved back to farm southeast of Rockwell. After their retirement, they spent numerous winters in Arizona. Doris moved to the Sunrise Homes in Sheffield in 1989 and recently had moved to the Sheffield Care Center.

Doris was an avid sports fan throughout her life, supporting her children and grandchildren in their athletic events. She spent numerous weekends at minor league ball games and men's fast pitch tournaments. Most recently she still listened to the Minnesota Vikings, Atlanta Braves, and Chicago Cubs games.

Visitation was held on Monday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf-Grarup Funeral Home in Sheffield.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Sheffield. Doris's grandsons will serve as pallbearers and grandson, Rick Noss of Omaha will give the eulogy.

Doris is survived by her children, Robert Foell, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Janice Noss, of Rockwell and husband, Richard, Ronald Foell, of Sheffield and wife Marianne, and Donna Johanns, of Woodbury, Minnesota; and two daughters-in-law, Doris Foell, of Ames and Gwen Farnham, of Webster City. She is also survived by sisters, Arlene Schrupp and Maxine Jensen, of Clarion; and two sisters-in-law, Ruby Hawke, of Dumont and Marge Hawke of Mason City; fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, brothers, Melvin and Dallas; sons, Dale and James; brother-in-law, Ernest Schrupp; and daughter-in-law, Beverly Foell.
