John Bergquist, 49, of Stratford died Tuesday, Aug. 22 in a truck accident.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford with the Rev. Willis Grant officiating. Burial will be in South Marion Cemetery south of Stratford.

Friends may call at Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford today (Wednesday, Aug. 23) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday, Aug. 24 from 9 a.m. to noon, when the casket will be taken to the church.

He was born March 4, 1940, in Webster City, the son of Roy E. and Christelle Nordblum Bergquist. He was a 1957 graduate of Stratford High School and also attended Morningside College in Sioux City and Iowa State University.

On July 16, 1961, he married Carlene Sackrison of Stratford. He was presently engaged in farming.

Survivors include his wife, Carlene, of Stratford; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Alan and Tammy of Denison, Texas, and Scott of Stratford; a daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Marty Johnson of Stratford; and two grandchildren, Jeremy and Jennifer of Denison, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, a Masonic member of Acorn Lodge No. 601 of Stratford, and a current member of the board of directors of the Stratford Apartment Board. He had served on the Stratford Historical Society and was a former member of the Stratford Lions Club.
