John Tempel, Kamrar mayor dies suddenly.

John J. Tempel, 58, mayor of Kamrar and longtime resident of that community, died suddenly Thursday evening at his home in Kamrar. He had been in ill health the past five years.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Presbyterian church east of Kamrar with the Rev. Marvin L. Camp officiating and with burial being made in the Presbyterian cemetery where military rites will be held. The body will lie in state at the Foster Funeral home until 9:30 a.m. Monday when it will be taken to the church.

John J. Tempel, son of Joe and Hilka Welp Tempel was born Oct. 26, 1909, at Kamrar. He was reared and educated in that community.

He was united in marriage June 24, 1933, to Gladys Stout, and the couple made their home in Kamrar.

He was employed for several years by Forrester Dairy, retiring in 1963, due to ill health.

Mr. Tempel served with the United States Navy during World War II.

He is survived by his wife; five sons and two daughters, Roger Tempel, Fullerton, Calif., Robert Tempel of Boston, Mass., Ronald Tempel of Los Angeles, Gary Tempel, Webster City, Mrs. Paul (Delores) Kern, Webster City, Mrs. Gary (Judy) Kessel, Dows, and Randy Tempel, at home. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Hilka Tempel of Kamrar, and six brothers and five sisters: Richard Tempel, Webster City; Virgil Tempel, Jewell; Harold Tempel, Donald Tempel, Joey Tempel and Elton Tempel, all of Kamrar; Mrs. Harry (Katie) Hassebrock, Jewell; Mrs. Gaylord (Dorothy) Hoversten, Radcliffe; Mrs. Margaret Arends, Jewel!; Mrs. Ernest (Ruth) Anderson, Iowa Falls, and Mrs. Francis (Naomi) Park, Webster City, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, who died Dec. 24, 1966.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian church at Kamrar.
