Mrs Tempel dies at 78

Mrs. Joe (Hilka) Tempel, 78, longtime Kamrar resident, died early Wednesday evening at the Hamilton County hospital. She had been in ill health the past several years.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian church east of Kamrar with the Rev. Marvin L. Camp officiating and with burial in the Presbyterian cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Foster Funeral home until 9:30 a.m. Saturday when it will be taken to the family home for a family prayer service. The body will lie in state at the church from 11:30 until the time of service.

Hilka Welp, daughter of Dick and Gepke Welp, was born March 7, 1891 in Germany. When she was six months old, she came with her parents to the United States and settled in the Kamrar area where she was reared and educated.

She was united in marriage March 30, 1909, to Joe Tempel, and the couple made their home on a farm in the Kamrar community. She was preceded in death by her husband Dec. 24, 1966. Mrs. Tempel continued to reside at the family home.

She is survived by six sons and five daughters: Richard Tempel, Webster City, Virgil Tempel, Jewell, Harold, Donald, Joey and Elton Tempel, all of Kamrar, Mrs. Harry (Katie) Hassebrock, Jewell, Mrs. Gaylord (Dorothy) Hoversten, Radcliffe, Mrs. Margaret Arends, Jewell, Mrs. Ernest (Ruth) Anderson, Iowa Falls, and Mrs. Francis (Naomi) Park, Webster City; 35 grandchildren; 33 great - grandchildren; one brother, Eppo Welp, Kamrar, and one sister, Mrs. Kate Groen of Burt, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, John J. Tempel, June 27, 1968; by a great-grandson; her parents, four brothers; one sister, and one son-in-law, Wyatt Arends.

Mrs. Tempel was a member of the First Presbyterian church at Kamrar.
