Oriole Tempel, 77, of Jewell died Monday, Jan. 4, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church of Kamrar. Friends may call at the Becker Funeral Home in Jewell today.

Tempel was born June 22, 1910, on a farm south of Kamrar to Harm and Alice (0lthoff) Tempel. He was one of five children. Tempel graduated from Kamrar High School in 1928 as valedictorian, attended Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls and taught in rural schools. He then purchased Home Oil Co. and spent nine years providing fuel to the Kamrar Community.

He married Mildred Buchholtz on Dec. 31, 1934, and they owned and operated a family farm until their retirement in 1979. He was active in his church and community, serving as an elder and Sunday school teacher at the First Presbyterian Church, on the board of directors of the Ackley Home, as a township trustee, and also on the coop elevator board, the election board, and as a state delegate for a major political party. He was also an active member of the Gideons.

Tempel is survived by his wife, son Norman of Willmer, Minn., three grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.
