John J Baker, 89, Webster City, a former Kamrar resident, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998 at the Southfield Care Center in Webster City. Funeral services were held today, Oct. 5, 1998, at the Community Church of Kamrar, with Dr. Craig Bex officiating. Burial was in the Presbyterian Cemetery, east of Kamrar. Foster Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

John James Baker, son of James and Rachel Heins Baker, was born Oct. 14, 1908, at Champaign, IL. He received his education in rural schools near Champaign. On Dec. 27, 1927, he married Minnie Koolhof at Garner. The couple resided at Buffalo Center for one year and in 1929, they moved to an acreage east of Kamrar. In 1941, they moved into Kamrar. He owned and operated John J. Baker Construction. His wife died on March 26, 1992.

He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Edna Baker of Ellsworth, grandchildren, Jack Baker of Ames, Don Baker, Jeannie Hill and Sandra Lunde, all of Ellsworth, Clark Baker of Cambridge, seven great-grandchildren, brothers Glen and Jimmy of Webster City, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, James R. Baker in 1990, his parents, brothers, Raymond and Clay Baker, sisters, Grace Arnold and Hazel Bealmer.

He was a member of the Community Church of Kamrar, Ducks Unlimited and several square-dancing clubs.
