Merle Dean Grove, 69, rural Ellsworth, died Sunday, March 31, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 3, at 1:30 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Ellsworth, Rev. Bruce Bane officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Jewell. Visitation at the Becker Funeral Home in Jewell is this afternoon and evening.

Merle Dean Grove, son of Clare and Blanche (Oakes) Grove, was born Jan. 6, 1922, north of Jewell. He attended Lyon Township No. 1 Country School. He married Marian LaVonne Westre on Nov. 14, 1944, in Jewell. The couple farmed north of Ellsworth, retiring in 1971.

He is survived by his wife, LaVonne, Ellsworth; a son, Jerri Grove, Ellsworth; a daughter, Jo Lacher, Normal, Ill.; five grandchildren; his mother, Blanche Grove, Jewell; and a brother, Duane Grove, Jewell.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clare, in 1969.

Mr. Grove was a member of the Draft Pony Hitch Association, and the Methodist Church in Ellsworth.
