JOHN SVENSON, 71, DIED HERE EARLY MONDAY

Widely Known Photographer Had Been Ill Several Months

John F. Svenson, 71, widely-known Webster City photographer, died early Monday morning at his home on north Des Moines street, following a lingering illness of several months.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Foster funeral home; burial in Graceland cemetery.

Born June 19, 1874, in Holstein, Germany, John Frederick Svenson came to the United States in 1904 with his brother, Henning. They located in Webster City and opened a photo studio. His brother later went on to Laramie, Wyo., to make his home.

In 1909 Mr. Svenson returned to Germany and on Oct. 26, 1909, was married to Martha Sarcey, at Paris. Following their marriage they came back to Webster City, and had resided here since that time.

Mr. Svenson operated a photography studio on Des Moines street when he first went into the business here, later having a location on Second street for a number of years. The past five years the shop had been located in the present location at 803 Des Moines street.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. Surviving are his wife, one son, John, and three daughters, Madeline, Yvonne and Leone, all of this city. One brother, Carl, lives at Laramie, Wyo., and one sister in Germany.

A skilled technician in all phases of photography, Mr. Svenson was recognized as one of the outstanding representatives of his trade in Webster City during the 41 years his studio was located here. His presence will not only be missed by the family group but also in business and professional circles.
