Oscar C. Fitzlaff, 70, longtime Webster City resident, died early Saturday morning at the Veterans' hospital in Des Moines where he had been a patient the past 11 days.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. R. Craig Bennett officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery. A flag-folding ceremony will be held at the cemetery by the American Legion Post 191.

Oscar Clinton Fitzlaff, son of Ernest Frederick and Clara M. Emery Fitzlaff, was born Sept. 26, 1906 at Alpha, Minn., where he was reared and educated. He later served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was married May 7, 1945 to Hazel Urich Downs, and the couple had always resided in Webster City where he was employed for many years at McCollough's Inc. Later he was employed at the city light plant and more recently at Graceland cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his wife Feb. 11, 1972, and had continued to reside here since that time.

He is survived by one step-son, and a step-daughter, Arthur James Downs and Mrs. Elton (Deloris) Tempel of Kamrar; eight step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are five brothers and five sisters: Herman of Jackson, Minn., Roy of Webster City, Harry of Webster City, Daryl of Jackson, Minn., Fred of Lakefield, Minn., Mrs. Fred (Elsie) Fisher, Webster City, Mrs. Alta Pena, Texas, Mrs. Jack (Clara) Anderson, Lakefield, Minn., Mrs. Esther Stofferahn, Illinois, and Mrs. Robert (Arlene) Bramstedt of Missouri, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
