Jay W. Dykstra, 22, of Denver, Iowa, currently living in Cedar Falls and attending the University of Northern Iowa, died on Friday, March 20, 2015, in Las Vegas, Nevada, while on spring break.

Jay was born on December 17, 1992 at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, Iowa, the son of James Wilfred and Lynn Kathleen (Alexander) Dykstra. He was baptized on May 9, 1993, in St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Webster City and confirmed on April 26, 2009 in St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly. Jay attended Preschool at the U.N.I. Child Development Center 1997-1998, Denver Elementary School 1998-2004, Denver Middle School 2005-2007, graduating in May of 2011 from the Denver High School. Jay was currently attending the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, preparing to graduate in May of this year with a Business Degree. Jay's family will receive his B.A. Degree with the class of 2015.

Jay was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly. While at the Denver High School, Jay was a dedicated student/athlete participating in Football, Basketball, Baseball & Track, receiving Academic All-District honors in football his senior year. While at U.N.I., Jay worked at Midwest Foam & Rubber Insulation, Inc. May-Aug of 2011 & 2012; Peppers Grill & Sports Pub Dec. 2011-May 2014, Ruan Transportation Management Systems June-Aug 2014, and was currently a Financial Representative Intern with Northwestern Mutual. Jay had an infectious smile, loved life, enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family, friends and his dog, "Mila."

Jay's memory is honored by his parents, Jim & Lynn Dykstra of Denver, Iowa; his sister, Jamie Lee Dykstra of Granger, Iowa; his paternal grandmother, Betty Dykstra of Webster City; his aunts and uncles, Bill Dykstra (Patti), Wayne Dykstra (Mary), Janet Wilson (Bruce), Nancy Mickelson (Dan), Tom Dykstra (Wendy), Tom Alexander, Lisa Alexander-Kauffman (Jon), Laura Alexander and Georgann Alexander; several cousins and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Wilfred "Bill" Dykstra; his maternal grandparents George and Kay Alexander; and his cousin, Joshua Dykstra.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly, with Fr. Dave Schatz presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Webster City, Iowa. Public visitation will be held on Friday, March 27th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral home in Waverly, 218 2nd Street S.E., where there will be a public scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation also for an hour prior to the mass at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly, 2700 Horton Road. Memorials may be directed to the family for a direction to be established at a later date.
