Raymond A. Whiting, 83, Webster City, died this morning, Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the Hamilton County Hospital. Memorial services will be held Thursday, Aug. 9, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Rev. Ward B. Malloy officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Graveside flag-folding services will be conducted by American Legion Post 191 of Webster City. Visitation at the Foster Funeral Home will be after 4 p.m. Wednesday until 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Raymond Allen Whiting, son of Artemus and Myrtle (Cooley) Whiting, was born April 2, 1907, at Albion, Neb. He was educated there, and graduated from Albion High School. He was employed by Safeway Stores at Omaha, Neb., and moved to Webster City in 1939, where he was employed as a comptroller for the Selby Grocery Co.

He married Roberta Reola Myers on June 7, 1941, in Omaha. The couple resided in Webster City. Mr. Whiting served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 25, 1943 until Nov. 1, 1945, with the 15th Finance Dispersing Section of the First Army for two years in the European Theater. After his discharge, the couple moved to Phoenix, Ariz., and later returned to Webster City, when Mr. Whiting was associated with the Brady Co. of Fort Dodge. The couple later opened their own bookkeeping service, which they operated for many years. Mr. Whiting was preceded in death by his wife on March 27, 1990.

He is survived by two nephews and two nieces, Milton Swanson, Grand Island, Neb.; Paul R. Swanson, Lincoln, Neb.; Charlotte Deichman, Glendale, Ariz.; and Marilyn Becker, Sacramento, Calif.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son Timothy in 1968, his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Whiting was a member of the First Congregational UCC of Webster City, the American Legion Post 191, was a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge, an honorary member of the Iowa Accountants Association, and was a longtime member of the Webster City Country Club.
