2-Year Old Williams Boy Dies in Farm Tank

Funeral Rites To Be Friday At Williams

Martin Hoversten, two-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerold Hoversten, farmers residing nine miles southeast of Williams, drowned early last evening after falling into a stock tank at his parents' farm.

Dr. DeWayne Anderson, county medical examiner, said this morning that the youngster was apparently in the water only a few minutes, but artificial respiration given him on the way to a doctor's office at Williams and also at the doctor's office failed to revive the boy.

Dr. Anderson said the mishap occurred at about 7 p.m. It was believed that the boy had climbed up on a high fence surrounding the tank, to look at some minnows swimming in the water, and tumbled into the tank.

His father, who was mowing the yard at the time, missed the little boy and found him just a few minutes after starting a search for the youngster who had been playing in the yard with a three-year old sister.

Dr. Anderson said the boy's death was the first fatality from drowning reported in Hamilton county this year.

Funeral services for Martin Dean Hoversten will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Williams, preceded by a brief service at 1:15 p.m. at the Foster funeral home in Webster City.

The Rev. Benjamin Ostrem will officiate and burial will be in the Williams cemetery.

Martin Dean Hoversten, son of Gerald and Patricia Hilpipre Hoversten, was born July 7, 1960, at the Memorial hospital in Story City. He had since resided with his parents in Rose Grove township southeast of Williams.

Besides his parents, he is survived by one sister, Melanie Dee, 3; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord Hoversten of Radcliffe, and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Hilpipre of Blairsburg; his great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Hilpipre of Webster City, Mrs. Anna Murphy, Webster City, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tempel of Kamrar, and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hoversten of Williams.
