Edward J. Meller after a week's illness, died at the hospital on May 31, 1940. His age was 74 years, 8 months and 15 days when he passed away from his worldly cares.

He was born Sept. 16, 1865, at Galena, Ill., being the only son of Mathias and Louisa Meller, of that city. He received his early education in Galena and was employed there during young manhood.

June 9, 1892, he was united in marriage to Regina Hillemeyer, at Shullsburg, Wis. They lived at Galena, Ill., until November, 1893, when they moved to Webster City and he was employed by the Strohmeyer Shoe factory which moved here at that time. He has been employed and resided in Webster City since that time and was respected and loved by all who became acquainted with him.

To this union were born five children, all of whom survive him. They are: E.E. Meller, Mrs. John G. Oleson, Leo J. and Frank M., all of Webster City, and Mrs. Philip Tracadas, of San Bernardino, Cal. There are also three grandchildren: Colleen Meller, George and Frank Tracadas.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Julia Strohmeyer and Mrs. Augusta Kuchemann, and his wife, who passed away Sept. 6, 1939. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. W.F. Obermiller, a niece and nephew, all of Galena, Ill.

He was a faithful worker and member of the M.W.O.A. and the K. of C. lodges.

Funeral services were held June 5, 1940, at the Catholic church with the Rev. F. J. Frien officiating. He was laid to rest beside his wife in the Catholic cemetery at Webster City.
