Funeral services for Jennie Arends, 88, will be held Saturday, Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. at Bethany Manor Care Center in Story City with Rev. Ronald Feuerhak officiating. Services will also be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Stanhope with Rev. William Van Dam officiating. Burial will be in the Presbyterian Church Cemetery near Kamrar. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral home after 4 p.m. today. She was a former Stanhope resident who died Wednesday, Sept. 9 at Bethany Manor Care Center in Story City.

Jennie Hassebrock, daughter of George and Jennie Bonk Hassebrock, was born July 12,1899 at Kamrar, where she was educated. She married Art John Arends on Feb. 25, 1920 at the bride's home at Kamrar. The couple farmed in the Kamrar, Jewell and Stanhope areas until 1957 when they moved into Stanhope. Following the death of her husband in November of 1959, she continued to reside at Stanhope. She moved in 1982 to Bethany Manor.

Survivors are three sons — Richard of Webster City, Alan of Albert Lea, Minn, and Larry of Stanhope; 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one sister, Norma (Mrs. Elmer) Van Langen of Kamrar.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, seven brothers and five sisters.

Mrs. Arends was a member of Grace United-Methodist Church at Stanhope, the UMW of the church and the Stanhope Senior Citizens.
