Mrs. Ira Egland, nee Carrie Johnson, was born in LaSalle county, Illinois, December 25th, 1865, where she grew to womanhood. In the year 1883, on April 5th, she was united in marriage to Ira Egland, of Jewell, Iowa, now deceased. To this union two children were born, one dying in infancy and Earl Melvin who died August 15, 1921.

Mrs. Egland's entire married life was spent in and around Jewell except one year which was lived in Illinois. On November 18, 1936, she left Jewell to make her home with a niece, Mrs. J.B. Niner, and family at Cedar, Iowa; and all that loving care could do for her was done, but she passed away at Mercy hospital at Oskaloosa, Iowa, January 30, 1937, at the age of 71 years, 1 month and 5 days. Although she suffered a great deal, she was a patient sufferer, never complaining. She will be greatly missed by her niece and family, also by neighbors and friends here, for she always had a kind word and willing hand to help those who needed help.

She leaves four brothers, Samuel, of Marseilles, Ill., Halver and Nels, of Wilmington, Ill., and Christ Johnson of Marshall, Minn., besides a host of other relatives and friends.

C.H. Peden, for Funeral Director, A.L. Fleenor, went to Cedar Sunday and brought the body here for burial, the funeral service being held at the Federated church Tuesday afternoon. The pastor, Rev. C.L. Duxbury, officiated. At the service songs were sung by the quartet, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Fenton and Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Fleenor; Mrs. J.B. Harris accompanying. Those who served as pall bearers were George Brandvig, Willard Grove, Sam Christenson, W.F. Templer, George Templer and Peder Lund.
